Keeping up with the ever-evolving landscape of generative AI can feel like an uphill battle, especially for designers and visual creatives. Enter Krea, a startup that aims to simplify this process. Recently raising $83 million, Krea is working to streamline the use of various AI models into a unified platform designed specifically for creators.

Krea’s platform offers a custom interface that allows users to easily query and edit outputs from multiple generative AI models. This means that designers can focus on their creative process without getting bogged down by the technicalities of AI. Users from companies like Perplexity AI, Loop Earplugs, Pixar, LEGO, and Samsung are already benefiting from Krea’s approach.

The funding announcement reveals that Krea is currently valued at $500 million post-money. With a Series B round led by Bain Capital Ventures, alongside investments from Andreessen Horowitz and Abstract Ventures, Krea is gearing up to expand its offerings.

The brainchild of creatives Victor Perez (CEO) and Diego Rodriguez (CTO), Krea was born out of a shared passion for both creativity and technology. Their journey began in Barcelona, where they met while studying engineering for audio-visual systems. Their fascination with AI blossomed around the time OpenAI launched, setting the stage for their future endeavors.

As they transitioned from academia to the startup world, Perez and Rodriguez identified a significant gap in the market. With the rapid influx of generative AI tools, many designers found themselves overwhelmed and unable to effectively utilize these technologies. “Each model is being leapfrogged very quickly by another one,” notes Aaref Hilaly, a partner at Bain Capital Ventures. Krea aims to solve this by offering a user-friendly layer that simplifies access to the latest models.

Rather than seeking to replace the creative workflow, Krea focuses on enhancing it. The platform allows users to input an idea for an image, which Krea then processes to find the most suitable models for that request. Users can further refine the results, maintaining their unique creative vision throughout the process.

Krea’s tools currently support still images and videos, with plans to expand into audio and music generation. The funding will also support the development of enterprise features, broadening its appeal beyond individual creators and small teams. As Anish Acharya, a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, puts it, “Krea extends human creativity with a product that gives users full control without sacrificing power or craft.”
